"THE PEOPLE THAT I SOLD,...BECAME
GREAT FRIENDS"
" I think in business, you've got to
make your word good, regardless of what it costs you. You may spend money to make your
word good. I think that you get customers and good business from people that recommend
you.
The people that I sold, when I was out selling, became great
friends. In those days, I could go into any little town and eveybody knew me. Most of my
friends were customers. I remember a customer down in Cassville - everytime I'd go down
there he wanted me to go fishing with
him. And we
fished together quite a bit!
It takes a long time to build any reputation. I think that your
word of mouth advertising is about the best advertising there can be. You've got to
be strictly honest with your customer.
I think the greatest accomplishment I ever had - and my sons
followed - was honesty in business. When we gave a guarantee, we stayed with that
guarantee. We gave them a value. I'd say that built our business."
